Narrowing down a bike that can do it all used to be tough going. Sure, some work well as a road bike and a 'cross bike, while others are good at commuting and some short road riding, but until the Diverge, nothing out there was astute at every kind of riding subject. The Diverge E5 Comp, however, is made for exploring new roads, commuting to class, and everything in between. It redefines what a road bike can do, so ride wherever you want—this bike doesn't take "no" for an answer. The Diverge is more capable than ever. And with the constant goal to best meet your needs, we took your number one request into account—tire clearance. The new frame will comfortably fit up to 700x38mm tires with plenty of room for mud, too. Along with tire clearance, weight was a large factor in the development and taking some design cues from the development of the Roubaix, we developed an E5 Premium Aluminum frame that's plenty light, certainly stiff for hard efforts, and undeniable tough. Next up, we moved away from a traditional 'cross geometry, instead opting for something that hasn't been seen before—our Open Road Geometry. You can think of it as a road version of modern trail bike geometry. It provides playful handling and predictable steering for endless dirt skids and mid-corner drifts. The geo features a bottom bracket that's over a half-centimeter lower than the previous Diverge, a slacked-out head tube angle, short chainstays, and a short wheelbase. These changes make for a bike that's not only fun in the dirt but also performs well on the road. And while riding gravel and dirt roads on a road bike may add to the adventure, there's only so much that wider tires with lower pressures can absorb, in terms of bumps. With this in mind, we implemented a new version of our Future Shock into the Diverge design. It not only soaks up bumps with ease but also adds the benefit of extremely predictable handling. That's because the wheelbase isn't lengthening when you hit a bump, so the front end of the Diverge keeps the same effective head tube angle. In other words, when you dive hard into a turn, you won't be surprised by under-steer or sloppy handling. Unlike the original Future Shock (found on the Roubaix), the Diverge's version features a progressive spring that makes this technology more suitable for off-road applications, where stiffer suspension is often needed to soak-up larger bumps and obstacles. Adding to its multifaceted talents, we topped it off with three water bottle mounts, plus mounts for racks and fenders. KONA 6061 ALUMINUM Kona 7005 and 6061 Aluminum alloys are used extensively throughout our fleet of mountain and asphalt bicycles. Much of our 7005/6061 tubing is butted and/or formed, meaning the tubing's wall thickness can be increased or decreased, as well as shaped, so we can fine-tune a particular frame's strength and ride characteristics depending on its intended application. INTERNAL HEADSET Bearing cups are actually pressed into the frame and are easily removable. An internal headset also reduces stack height, so the height of the stem and bars are more adjustable, giving the rider the best fit possible. TAPERED HEAD TUBE More girth at the bottom of the head tube better distributes shock force, prolonging the bearing life of the headset itself and eliminating brake shudder, while providing confident steering performance. The inherent strength of its triangular design also means a stronger steering position and improved balance, giving the rider more control in rough terrain. A zero-stack, tapered head tube also puts strength where the load is going—into the lower headset cup—maximizing bearing durability where it's needed. For 2017, you'll see the 12x148 Boost standard in the mix. Boost spacing provides more tire clearance at the chainstay yoke, while the rear wheel is stiffer and more durable relative to a 12x142 thru-axle.

Nowadays, the internally routed disc brakes, generous tire clearance, and thru-axle approach that made the Stigmata famous have become more of a norm, so we took a fresh look at which standards the riders of tomorrow wanted access to today. Threaded bottom brackets remain a perennial favorite across our entire line thanks to their proven robust, cost-effective, and compatible design. "If it ain't broke…" ...and it never is. Fender mounts add a bit of CYA and highlight the Stigmata's ever-widening scope of purpose. We added to that with three bottle cage mounts so that the frame can still hold at least one normal bottle even when running a front triangle bag. Deeper adventures and bigger tires, perhaps? The frame now clears up to a 45mm 700c or a 2.1" 650B tire. This gravel bike or The Hagar as we call it, has borrowed some things from its fully suspended Evil family members. In an effort to be less terrified and have more fun we drew inspiration from the Offering which uses a longer front to center and reach, shorter stem, and 430mm chain stays to supply mountain bike stability and handling to the twitchy gravel category. We have added more trail and chainstay length for higher speeds both on and off gravel, while allowing for more party on singletrack. In addition to aggressive geometry we added clearance for 50c tires for the most ambitious adventures. Super-low standover heights and dropper posts keep blood pressures in check when things point downward. 140-160mm Flat mount or MTB discs hold down the stopping duties. And while shred pumps through the Chamois Hagar’s veins, versatility grounds the Hagar’s infectious energy. Seven water bottle mounts, stealth rack and fender mounts, 1x and 2x options, close ratio and wide-range builds, internal routing, Di2 provisions, and 100 x 12/142 x 12 spacing just begin to tell its story.
